OUR VIEW ON PRIVACY
We believe that people should be able to use the Internet without worrying about the unauthorised or unwarranted collection of their personal information. We disapprove of Spyware. Our Privacy Policy is spelled out in detail below.
WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
The information that we collect, if any, depends on what CommonName services you use.
- WHAT INFORMATION DOES THE COMMONNAME SOFTWARE APPLICATION COLLECT?
Users who install our software can be assured that our software:
- does not collect any personal information;
- does not collect personal data by monitoring your behaviour;
- does not attempt to connect to the Internet if you are not connected;
- does not bundle any other software; and
- does install an uninstaller.
Our software may collect anonymous data for aggregation so that we know for example how many of our users have searched using a particular term (e.g. "cars") or to serve occasional advertising.
- WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED IF YOU USE OUR WEBSITE SERVICES?
If you use the services on our website, we do not collect any personal information. We may collect generic geographic or demographical data for the purposes of improving our services.
When using our website services, the browser on your computer sets a temporary "cookie" on your computer, which is a piece of information sent by our server to your browser. Your browser returns this "cookie" to our server whenever you make requests for information from our server. We do this so that you can use our services more efficiently. You are free to decline our cookies if your browser allows this, but you may have to enter your password more frequently during a session as a result.
- WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED IF I REGISTER OR BUY A COMMONNAME KEYWORD OR COMMONNAME SEARCH PRODUCT?
If you register or purchase a CommonName Keyword or CommonName Search product, we obviously have to collect some personal information from you (and in the case of products purchased directly from us, your credit card details). This is because we need to know who has registered CommonName Keywords or for CommonName Search and also have the ability to contact you so that we can discuss any customer service issues relating to the products. We may also send you a monthly or quarterly CommonName newsletter to update you on important issues relating to your CommonName Keyword or CommonName Search product, but you have the right to opt out of receiving this newsletter at any time.
We do not send your personal information to any third party organisations. In case we change this policy in the future (which is not anticipated) we do ask you when we collect the information whether you want your details to ever be sent to third party organisations. If you don’t, merely opt-out.
You may change your personal information at any time. Follow the simple procedure in the "login" section of our web site. You cannot delete your information however if you want to continue the registration of your CommonName Keyword or CommonName Search product.
THIRD PARTIES
The CommonName website contains links and advertisements that lead to other websites. If you click on a link or advertisement, then you will of course be subject to that third party’s privacy policy.
Similarly if you use one of the external search engines that our search platform allows you to use (e.g. Google, Yahoo) or any other third party site, then you are subject to their privacy policies.
If you purchase a CommonName Keyword or CommonName Search product, then your credit card details will need to be sent to the appropriate financial intermediary for payment approval and crediting.
If CommonName is ever sold, then the user information that we have will of course become known to the new owners.
OUR DATA SECURITY
We use software and hardware tools to protect our computers against unauthorised access. The strongest commercially available encryption technology (128 bit Secure Sockets Layer software) is employed to provide security for your personal information when transmitted to or from our web site. Your user ID and password enable access to your personal information, so you should not disclose your password to anyone.
CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY
If we ever change our Privacy Policy such that it offers less protection for users’ personal information, we will give advance notice of the changes on our web site 30 days prior to them becoming effective. Before the changes are made you will be able to delete from our records the personally information we have relating to you.
