CN IDENTITY - ACCEPTANCE GUIDELINES |

These guidelines are designed to help CN Identity applicants understand the basis for registering a valid CN Identity. These guidelines have been drafted with both CN Identity applicants and our Internet users in mind.
We reserve the right to reject and disable a CN Identity at any time and using our sole discretion. We may do this regardless of whether the name has been operating for a period of time or is a new name. We also reserve the right to improve these guidelines over time.

1.0 Guidelines for registering a CN Identity
We will look at the following issues when reviewing a CN Identity.
1.1
The name must be the individual’s name or nickname
To be a valid CN Identity, the name must be:
- the individual’s name (first name, last name or a combination of the two - with or without middle names or initials); or
- the individual’s name with additional differentiating numbers or words (e.g. "John Smith 12" or "John Smith London")
- a nickname for the person (e.g. "Smithy"), as long as the nickname is not the name of another person.
Names may be registered with or without spacing between the words. Names must contain a minimum of two characters.
The applicant cannot register someone else’s name.

Business names are not permitted
The name must relate purely to an individual. Business names are not permitted. We reserve the right to reject any name that is the same or similar to a well-known business name even if it is legitimately the individual’s name as well.

The website and/or email address that the name is linked to must not be business related
The website that the name is linked to must be of a purely personal nature. The website must not contain the running or promotion of any business, organisation or trade, nor must the site contain links to any website that contains the running or promotion of any business, organisation or trade.
The name must not be linked to an email address directly related to the running of a business. It is valid to link the name to a work-issued email address (e.g. "johnsmith@abc.com"), but it is not valid to link the name to a non-personal work-issued email address (e.g. "sales@abc.com").

Inappropriate names or links are not permitted
We reserve the right to reject and disable any name that we view in our sole discretion to be inappropriate or any name that links to a website or email address that we view to be inappropriate. Inappropriate websites, names or email addresses include any material that is racist, discriminatory, illegal, incites violence or hate or is grossly offensive in nature. We will be the sole judge of whether a website contains such material.
We reserve the right to disable at any time a CN Identity if we believe that the name infringes any of these guidelines or we believe in our sole discretion that the name should be disabled in the interests of CommonName or our users.
