4. Editing Form Details

You can update your details at any time using the Form Manager.

To run the Form Manager, select "Tools" on the Toolbar and then "Form fill - edit details".

4.1 Adding Field Names

If a field is not defined in the standard field, the associated field on a form will be left empty when using the CommonName form fill feature.

For example, currently the standard fields include 'First Name' and 'Last Name' but not 'Full Name'.

However, the CommonName Toolbar allows you to add extra fields so that details on your favorite sites can be filled automatically.

4.2 Editing Field Names

In some cases, the CommonName Form Manager may not fill home or work details on a form after you select the 'Form Fill - home details' or 'Form Fill - work details' option from the CommonName Toolbar menu.

This will occur if the form you are filling in on a web page uses different field names than the standard field names set up in the CommonName Form Manager.

CommonName solves this problem by helping you edit the home and work fields to ensure details are filled on your favourite sites are filled automatically.

5. Advanced Users - Specifying Field Names in Regular Expression

CommonName allows you to use regular expression when defining field names.

To illustrate this, consider the 'First Name' field. The field name is set as f.*name.
  • The period (.) after the f means that it will look for f followed by any character.
  • The asterisk (*) after the period means that any number of characters will be accepted before name appears.
  • The whole tag is therefore looking for an F followed by any character or multiples thereof before the word name.
  • So the tag would accept firstname, forename, first-name, first name, forname or even f1234name.
