7th September 2001 - CommonName and popular international search engine GoTo (UK) today announced their partnership providing UK users access to GoTo search engine results. This further bolsters the suite of CommonName services which primarily enable direct web navigation and email communication by use of keywords rather than URL's and length domain names.
The deal reinforces CommonName's commitment to improving the efficiency of web navigation and accelerating discovery of information on the web.
The partnership is considered the 'perfect match' with increased demand from CN users for a robust internet search engine to support the existing CommonName search facility. This need is met by GoTo who is fast becoming one of UK's most popular search engines, providing web search results to millions of unique users in the UK, and reaching approximately 50% of the UK online population.
"This partnership signifies another important step in the progression of the CommonName service for users - CN is not just your internet identity, it's become your powerful search platform" states Yurong Lin, CommonName's CEO.
Subsequent to the deal, UK users can quickly navigate to a larger collection of websites by entering keywords directly into their browser address bar - no more "www", "http://" or ".co.uk" is necessary. If the keyword links directly to a CommonName, users are directed to the relevant website - if no link exists, users are presented with a list of relevant sites to choose from.
