CommonName News - CommonName Launches Free 'Internet Identity For Life' Service

10th April 2001 - CommonName, a global Internet company, today launches the free 'Internet Identity for Life' service for personal users. The free service replaces complicated web addresses and hard to remember email addresses with simple words or names, which are chosen by users. For the first time, personal users can establish unique, Internet identities, never having to worry about keeping friends and colleagues abreast of changes to their email or website address.

Yurong Lin, founder and CEO of CommonName says: "Our objective as a company is to make the Internet more user friendly. To do this we've developed technology that allows users to send emails or locate websites using simple names or words. This means that users no longer have to concern themselves with confusing technical idioms, such as 'http://', 'www', '@' and '.com'. We truly believe that CommonName will revolutionise web use."

To send an email, instead of typing in john.smith@hotmail.com, users simply type the CommonName 'John Smith' into their email package, such as Microsoft Outlook. Similarly, to visit a website, users can type 'Yahoo' into their web browser's address bar, and be instantly taken to their local Yahoo website. CommonName works with all major browsers and email clients, including Outlook, Outlook Express and Eudora and can be downloaded free from the CommonName website www.commonname.com.

Making Life Easier

In addition to 3G Web Addressing, CommonName offers a range of free tools that make the Internet easier to use. The key features of CommonName are:-

Web Navigation Type a personal or business name directly into your browser's address bar and navigate to the most appropriate website instantly, instead of typing in the full URL.
Web Email  Type a friend's CommonName into an email client, such as Microsoft Outlook, and have your email sent to their most appropriate email address (eg. work address during business hours, home address after hours), without having to remember complicated addresses.
PowerSearch  Conduct searches, using your favourite search engines, by typing directly into your browser's address bar.
Email Management  Manage multiple pop email accounts from the one location, allowing you to send, receive and forward messages through an easy to use web interface.
Online Bookmarks  Bookmark favourite websites and store these Bookmarks online - access bookmarks from home, work or anywhere in the world.
Bookmark Names Navigate the web, using the names that you assign to Bookmarks. For example, assign the name "banking" to your Bank's online banking site.
Online Notes Create notes about websites as you surf - then be reminded about the note the next time you return to that website.
